How to help children cope with a long journey?

Children are very restless. And a long journey in a car, bus, train can turn into hell for them. How to help children cope with a long road and get to a place of rest without quarreling with them? 🙂 Ben Hatch, an avid traveler who traveled around 13,000 km across Britain, decided to share (here the link to the source) several life hacking. They seemed to us very effective, so we advise you to read them and be sure to put them into practice. And let your family holiday be perfect!
Tip 1. Inspire children with travel
Tell your children about where and why you are going. Kids will take the road much easier, waiting at the end of the way for an amusement park, an interesting excursion or a meeting with their favorite superhero. But in no case should not deceive the child: so you lose his confidence.
Tip 2. Always keep on hand healthy and hearty snacks.
Traveling long distances with small children without a packet of fruit pastilles or licorice candies is tantamount to trying to swim across the English Channel. Yes, it is possible, but in the end you will be exhausted! Of course, sweets are bad, but you can always take some fresh fruit with you, a wholesome cereal bar or stevia-based candy.
Tip 3. Come up with a few games that you can play with children on the road
Few things can be carefully considered while driving fast. Except, of course, other cars and the heads of mom and dad, but this is not very interesting for children. Therefore it is worth trying some not difficult game: for example, in the cities. You can also play who will say more words that begin with a letter. More patient parents can prepare a list of riddles and enjoy relative peace while children search for answers.
Tip 4. Do not neglect the achievements of technology
The gadget hobby not controlled by parents is not the best solution for children’s leisure. But a tablet or dvd player will help you on the road. Check beforehand whether the device is charged. Films and cartoons with your favorite characters are best to download in advance, and not leave in the morning: as you know, the cunning download process slows down in a hurry.
The tablet helps well at short distances. During very long trips, children get bored, and even a favorite toy no longer brings joy. But when the parent is ready to stretch the package with colored pencils and an album, the children ask: “Okay, let’s take it back. I will feed the cat / dog. ”
Tip 5. Make a story about a trip, the main character of which will be your baby
Small children are very egocentric. To grab their attention and get a few hours of peace, just tell famous fairy tales … replacing the main character with your child! The little one will be thrilled with delight, listening to “and here came the god fairy godmother …” or the story about Katya and the Seven Dwarfs. Children will not notice how quickly time will fly by, because they will be absorbed in their own incredible adventures.
Tip 6. Is it around the corner?
Does your child constantly ask when is the next stop? Make it a rule that every 80 km is just around the corner.
Tip 7. Parents! Always keep calm
Children often reflect the mood of their parents. Therefore, never quarrel on the road and find out who is right and who is not. (In general, with children this should never be done). It will save you a lot of time and nerves.
In any difficult situation, when it seems that nothing can calm your child – hug! All together, with the spouse and the kid / kids. And remind yourself that time is running fast, children will grow up – and very soon they will travel without you. Therefore, calm your nerves and enjoy the time that you are still able to spend together. Love you and great trips!
